Eating healthy food is one of the prime factors that are responsible for the overall health of the body and mind. The healthy food pyramid provides a graphical guideline to people – what food is good and what amount of food one should take. As such, proportions of each food item have been therein.
The body requires such ingredients as carbohydrate, protein, fat and minerals to sustain. You can get these components only by eating different food items. Hence, the choice of food should be all-encompassing to achieve it. But your body’s requirement of each of these essential ingredients is different. Depending on your physique and physical activities you undertake, you should be able to ascertain the type and amount of food you need daily. That explains why the healthy food pyramid does not recommend fixed amount of food in terms of servings that should be taken daily but instead provides the ranges.
The healthy food pyramid proposes one general guideline to select the foods – that is to include food in the lower portion of the pyramid in greater amount than that on the upper part. It provides plenty of options to select food items as per one’s preferences within it. Vegetarian people can choose their source of proteins from nuts and seeds.
It must be borne in mind that the healthy food pyramid has been designed on the basis of different food items that are being consumed by a general person. So, people who mostly rely on processed food should also take into account the amount of oil and fats that go into their preparations. Some studies show that people, whose food habits are almost akin to those proposed in the healthy food pyramid, reduced the risk of developing any chronic disease by as much as twenty percent.
